چکیده

Kestenband proved in [12] that there are only seven pairwise non-isomorphic Hermitian intersections in the desarguesian projective plane PG…2; q† of square order q. His classi®cation is based on the study of the minimal polynomials of the matrices associated with the curves and leads to results of purely combinatorial nature: in fact, two Hermitian intersections from the same class might not be projectively equivalent in PG…2; q† and might have different collineation groups. The projective classi®cation of Hermitian intersections in PG…2; q† is the main goal in this paper. It turns out that each of Kestenband's classes consists of projectively equivalent Hermitian intersections. A complete classi®cation of the linear collineation groups preserving a Hermitian intersection is also given. # 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Combin Designs 9: 445±459, 2001

Unitals in Finite Desarguesian Planes

We show that a suitable 2-dimensional linear system of Hermitian curves of PG(2, q2) defines a model for the Desarguesian plane PG(2, q). Using this model we give the following group-theoretic characterization of the classical unitals. A unital in PG(2, q2) is classical if and only if it is fixed by a linear collineation group of order 6(q + 1)2 that fixes no point or line in PG(2, q2).

Collineation Groups Preserving a Unital in a Projective Plane of Order

A unital embedded in a finite projective plane Π of order m# is a substructure of Π which forms a 2®(m$1,m1, 1) design. Several authors devoted their attention to the embedded unitals. The main aim is either to construct and investigate new classes of unitals, or to characterize some classes using group-theoretical or graphical properties [3, 6, 9, 18, 25]. In [3] we give some general results...

Buekenhout-Tits Unitals

A Buekenhout-Tits unital is defined to be a unital in PG(2, q2) obtained by coning the Tits ovoid using Buekenhout’s parabolic method. The full linear collineation group stabilizing this unital is computed, and related design questions are also addressed. While the answers to the design questions are very similar to those obtained for Buekenhout-Metz unitals, the group theoretic results are qui...

Non-Existence of isomorphisms between certain unitals

We show that the Ree-Tits unitals are neither classical nor isomorphic to the polar unitals found in the Coulter-Matthews planes. To this end, we determine the full automorphism groups of the (finite) Ree unitals.

Some geometric aspects of finite abelian group

Let Π be a finite projective plane admitting a large abelian collineation group. It is well known that this situation may be studied by algebraic means (via a representation by suitable types of difference sets), namely using group rings and algebraic number theory and leading to rather strong nonexistence results. What is less well-known is the fact that the abelian group (and sometimes its gr...
